is a Swiss-Québécoise singer-songwriter based in Montreal. Launching her music career during the strange, suspended time of the pandemic, Clara released her first two EPs, Outsider/Unusual and Velveteen, in a world where connections were forged almost entirely online.
This unmoored beginning shaped her artistry, embedding in her work a sometimes unsettling duality: the longing for connection followed by a deep embrace of solitude. This tension between Clara’s internal and external worlds anchors her recent work both sonically and lyrically.
Her new single, Nothing Dazzled, out February 6, 2025, with distribution via Happy Life, stands out as Alicia Clara’s rockiest track to date. Layers of guitars drenched in effects and distortion—a signature of producer Chris Steward, one-half of Montreal music duo Bodywash—are balanced against her soft, velvety vocals. Influenced by albums from Soccer Mommy, Alvvays, Widowspeak, and Julia Jacklin, the song carves out a both cathartic and raw space.
With vocals often compared to the likes of Hope Sandoval and Jessica Pratt, Clara’s past two EPs have won acclaim from CBC, Exclaim!, Le Devoir, have charted !earshot and Bandcamp’s Best Selling Albums in Indie Pop, and led her to perform at festivals such as SXSW and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
